Jan Ladislav Dussek (1760 – 1812) was born in the town of Čáslav, Czech Republic (≈ 50 miles east of Prague). A contemporary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791), he was a leader in developing the late Classical style of keyboard compositions. His keyboard works foreshadowed the early Romantic style of Ludwig van Beethoven (1756 – 1791), Franz Schubert (1797 – 1828), and Felix Mendelssohn (1809 – 1847).
